Back when I didn’t drive so much (when I was a student or living abroad) I got my NPR fix through iTunes. On a scale of 1 to 10, I was and am addicted at about a level 12 to NPR Movies and RadioLab. For the latter I probably should dedicate an entire post. Same goes for the NPR music spots, which I digest via RSS.
Nowadays I have a regular commute and all, and since I live too far to bike and my scooter is dead, I drive and listen to old-school radio. I frame my workday with Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Marketplace (technically not NPR, but APM).
Thanks to NPR, I have access to intelligent reporting and opinions about politics and culture and the best U.S. Supreme Court coverage out there. Plus I get recommendations and reminders of other media I love, like the upcoming new season of Flight of the Conchords. The recent job cuts there are no laughing matter though. We need all the smart, experienced journalists we can get nowadays.
I’m planning on this “media I’m addicted to” becoming a recurring feature, just because I’m so addicted to so many incarnations of blogs, podcasts, radio shows, etc.
